Image Coordinate System
An image coordinate system describes how locations
are measured in the image. Some formats, such as FITS have a format
standard requirement for coordinates. This specifies that the image
be displayed with a particular coordinate system. Other graphics
file formats such as TIFF, BMP, and JPEG, do not rigorously define
a required coordinate system. The coordinate system definition used
by Mira for working with images in all formats is based upon the
FITS Standard and the FITS
World Coordinate System extension to the
Standard.
The image coordinate system describes the
orientation of a displayed image, the way column and row positions
are labeled and measured at the sub pixel level, how angles are
references to zero, and also how position is attached to a world
coordinate value The details are described in the topics listed
below.
