An Overview of the Mira Universe

When choosing an image processing solution — be it state of the art, state of the "shelf", or totally custom — here's what Mirametrics brings to the table:

  • Expertise in various areas of science, image processing, and emerging technologies.
  • An expert understanding of sensors, image formation, and data reduction.
  • A deep understanding of workflow, productivity, and user interface issues.
  • Intellectual property consisting of significantly more than a million lines of code.

There are many scientists in academia and the private sector who create cutting-edge algorithms for image processing and analysis. So does Mirametrics. But how are conceptual needs and software solutions woven into a human-usable product?  Where Mirametrics excels is in implementing the best algorithms and techniques, many unique, within a software environment tuned to the user's mindset. We believe software should work like an extension of the customer's mind and hand. So we put enormous effort into understanding and implementing workflow patterns and customer needs in order to create software that gives both a minimal learning curve and an optimal progression from "need" to "know". Our user interfaces don't look nearly as cluttered as competitive products, but the same tools, and more, are easily available when you need them. Customer List

Mira was born in July 1988. Even the earliest Mira, version 1, gave smooth, real-time, mouse-operated palette stretching for 2k x 2k images using a consumer-grade video card on a 486-33 computer — something completely unheard of at the time. As early as 1992, Mira users were displaying and processing 250 MB image files on 486 PC's using a fast, 32-bit windowed, graphical user interface we created from scratch. This was well before Microsoft released the first of its modern 32-bit windowed GUI-based operating systems, Windows 95.
In 1994, Mira users were working with reconnaissance images 250MB and larger, enjoying smooth, real time image scrolling and contrast/brightness adjustments on 486 class PC's with commodity video cards.Since the start, the Mira™ product line has continued to innovate new processing algorithms, new ways of looking at things, and better user interface designs. And Mira continues to lead in raw performance. Our software is used across a spectrum of technical applications in astronomy & space sciences, radiography, medical physics, nanotechnology, and other emerging technologies. Our experience developing solutions for a diverse mix of specialties has provided a rich cross-fertilization of ideas and has created a broad competency, giving Mirametrics a unique ability to create imaging solutions that excel in their target applications. In both off-the-shelf and custom applications, Mirametrics solutions embody a unique blend of mathematical and algorithmic expertise, optimized work-flow, and superior user interface design.

Mira users often ask us, "How many lines of code in Mira?" The quick answer is "A lot!" But here's a nice visualization: Mira consists of code Mirametrics has written in-house plus several libraries and licensed components. If we were to list the source code in Mira Pro x64 written only by Mirametrics, at 5 lines per inch with no text wrapping, on normal weight 8.5x11 inch paper, Mira's source code listing would be a stack of paper 12 feet tall.
