Line Profile
A Line Profile is a graph of pixel values versus distance along a line drawn on the image. A Line Profile differs from a Column Profile Plot and a Row Profile Plot in that the sample line is drawn manually using the mouse, In addition, the Line Profile plots intensity versus distance on the x axis, whereas a column or row profile plots intensity versus position. To change the line ("marker") this command draws on the image, see Marker Properties.
See Creating a Line Profile for the plotting procedure.
A line profile can be plotted using either the present command or by using the direction-specific commands for a Column Profile or a Row Profile. There are some unique capabilities offered by each method.
To Overplot column or row series from different locations, not necessarily adjacent to each other, use the present command to draw a line that is perfectly horizontal or vertical, along a single row or column, respectively. If you do not erase the plot line you can use Move Mode to add another series to the plot at a later time.
To Overplot or Animate series within a range of rows or to plot a single row or a single averaged row, use the Column Profile or Row Profile command. You will not be able to add another row series to the plot at a later time.
The Line Profile is drawn into a Plot Window like that shown below. Notice that the horizontal axis is distance, not an absolute position as for Column and Row Profile Plots.
