Image Coordinate System


An image coordinate system describes how locations are measured in the image. Some formats, such as FITS have a format standard requirement for coordinates. This specifies that the image be displayed with a particular coordinate system. Other graphics file formats such as TIFF, BMP, and JPEG, do not rigorously define a required coordinate system. The coordinate system definition used by Mira for working with images in all formats is based upon the FITS Standard and the FITS World Coordinate System extension to the Standard.
