Set Region Value
The Set Region Value command changes the pixel values inside or outside a rectangular region of interest (ROI). Pixels in the target region are assigned a value plus or minus Gaussian random noise. The region may be explicitly specified or may be defined by the image cursor. The noise value may be set to 0 to assign a constant value..
The related Set Pixel Value command sets single pixels to a target value. The Edit Pixel Values command allows you to view or edit a region of pixels using a tabular listing format.
The Set Region Value command opens from the Image Window > Process > Region menu and button on the Main Toolbar. The "immediate" form, shown first, opens when an image or image set is displayed in the top-most window. The general form can be used to select source images from folders, windows, or by matching templates.

[Select] |
Opens the Select Source Images dialog to choose images from an image window, folder, files, pattern, or a file list. |
Region Value |
Specifies the value assigned to the region. |
Region Noise |
Specifies the sigma value for Gaussian random noise assigned to the region. |
Source Region |
Specifies the rectangular region to be processed. The options are as follows: Entire image: The entire image is processed. Image Cursor: The region to be processed is selected using the Image Cursor. Rectangle: The region specified by Min and Max limits for Column and Row coordinates is processed. Column and Row, Min and Max: When Rectangle is selected, these values specify the column and row limits to be processed. |
Include Region |
Click this button to include the rectangular region when setting the specified value and noise. |
Exclude Region |
Click this button to exclude the rectangular region when setting the specified value and noise. Only pixels outside the rectangle are changed. |
The first two pictures below show the effect of applies the properties in the dialog above. Before setting the replacement values, the image cursor and image statistics were used to sample the median and standard deviation in a nearby blank region.

The example below shows the difference between selecting include region and exclude region on the same image. In both examples, the assigned value is 200 and the noise is 8 (1-sigma).
